Promoting a novel about a mass shooting, during an era of mass shootings

My heart is breaking for the shooting victims in Buffalo, Uvalde and the other 200 mass shootings this year in America. My heart breaks for the families and loved ones of the victims.

It's strange having written a novel called The Shooting at a time of horrific mass shootings. It's strange trying to promote it now, in this bloody and deadly May, and do all the things I'm expected to do as new author. The book does not celebrate mass shootings or guns or violence, but it is about them. I listened to the science fiction novel, The End of Men, on a recent drive back and forth from North Carolina and had to turn it off sometimes because it was so chillingly prognosticating of the COVID pandemic (it was written in 2018). The End of Men was published in 2021 and I wonder if the author struggled as well with promoting a book about a deadly pandemic during a deadly pandemic. Course, there are mass shootings all the time in America, which inspired The Shooting, so there would not be a good time or bad time to publish and promote it. It's just very timely, I guess, in this needlessly violent and heartbreaking era we live in.

I do need to keep asking readers to give it a review or rating on Amazon and/or Goodreads.com. Between both, I have 35 awesome individual reviews/ratings and really want to get to 50 soon. Let me know if you need help with Goodreads, it's notoriously difficult to create an account.

Stay safe. Tell people you love them. Read.
