Great book, great read! The chapters are short which is appealing to someone with 10-15 minutes to pick up & read & yet, I still wanted to read more and it was easy to do. The concept is compelling & up to speed with the world today. The sci-fi turn is also intriguing. The characters are well developed & relatable. Left me wanting more!
This book grabs your attention from page one! It dives right in to the story, and the only negative is my lack of sleep because I can’t put it down at night!! Can’t wait for the next one!

Very entertaining and a quick read! Mixing SciFi, environmentalism, and the political issues of our times; this book is a promising start to a great story. Dumbfounded to read fiction and come across the Kessler syndrome! Wow!Looking forward to next installment, but hope publisher is not going to make a George RRMartin thing of this. Andy Weir should be looking over his shoulder!

CK Westbrook’s sci-fi novel is a page turner. I say this from the perspective of one oriented to history and biography. I gobbled up The Shooting in one sitting and look forward to more. The story opens with the utterly improbable proposition that a couple of years ago every human on earth who owned a gun – or at least was able to gather up, load and use it within a vanishing few minutes – shot him or herself to death. Somehow Westbrook’s crisp, fast-moving narrative stretches over this implausibility in the rush to figure out why and by whom and what’s gonna happen next. The main character is Kate, a thorough going environmentalist who lives in Washington D.C., her partner Kyle, and their neighbor Sinclair. And a giant transmutable orange cat Kate names Rex (or King, or King of Kings if you will). In truth, the story is an allegory for something bigger Westbrook wants to get across – the necessity for personal courage and bravery against seemingly insurmountable odds. Who wins? It’s not really sure. But Kate is one badass tree-hugger

An excellent read. Read this on the plane and made the time pass quickly. So creative and timely, given the constant mass shootings in our society. This book is set in DC and during the pandemic and makes you think about what if in so many ways. And love the sci-fi aspect of it. Look forward to read the next book in the series.

It was scary at the beginning, but I couldn't put it down, cleverly written incorporating some current issues, space pollution, something it never occurred to me, COVID and mass shootings. I am looking forward to the second book.

Another horrifying shooing during the pandemic with an unusual twist. This novel had my attention right away. A quick and exciting read because you can't put it down. I hope the author plans a sequel.

Wow, CK Westbrook pulls you in right away on this fast-paced, science fiction, page turner! As a DC resident for many years, I felt like I was right there with Kate from the very first page and she never lets go. I have not been much of a science fiction devotee in the past, but I am looking forward to following along with any journey written by CK Westbrook. This book may have been born during the pandemic lockdown, but I see this author being able to bring us great works for years to come!

A fast paced read driven by unlikely heroine Kate, her boyfriend Kyle, and their astrophysicist neighbor Sinclair, you will keep turning the page to see if they can get leaders worldwide to take the steps necessary to ward off otherworldly threats. The first in a series, I can't wait to read more.
