Vive La Resistance

Hello CK Westbrook readers,

We all know how terrible things are in America. Friends are losing their jobs, just for trying to make life better and more equitable for everyone. People are stressed out as Trump and Elon purge the federal bureaucracy in pursuit of authoritarian power. We must find ways to rebel and fight this slide into fascism.

I’ve seen inspiring acts on social media and amongst my friends and family. People are attending protests and rallies, putting signs in their yards, testifying at public meetings, calling and lobbying their lawmakers at the state and national levels, and sharing everything on social media. If you are so inclined, scroll down to the pictures, and you will see actions people can take from home to support the resistance.

I have updated and created new videos about “The Impact Series.” The books are rebellious. They include abuse of the environment and space by billionaires who care nothing about the consequences. Defunct satellites are a major contributor to space debris and Elon Musk has more working and defunct satellites in space than anyone else. His disregard for human life and the environment on Earth and in space is dangerous. Kate and Sinclair confront a government that does not listen to regular Americans and federal employees and instead sides with billionaires. Sound familiar? The videos will be on Instagram, Bluesky, Facebook, and Substack. If you see them, please like and share them. Help spread the word.

Vive la resistance. Every act is helpful.

EVENTS

For many of us, this has been an especially cold and snowy winter, but spring is just around the corner. I can’t wait!

I will moderate and speak on a panel at Awesome Con, Washington, D.C.’s Comic-Con, on Friday, April 4!

Program Title: History And Science In Fiction

How important are historical events and science in the real world when creating fiction? How do we use them in storytelling? What research (or lack of research) goes into adding elements of real history and science to our stories? Are there times when it turns out truth is stranger than fiction?

Hear from science fiction authors CK Westbrook (local D.C. author of The Impact Series), and J.R. Traas (author of The Aelfraver Series) as they share their experiences and tips for incorporating these elements into their work.

Friday, April 4, 2025, 1:45 PM - 2:30 PM, Room 206

If you are attending Awesome Con come by and say hello! It’s a great convention and there will be games, panels, photo-ops, comic books, and celebrities including Liv Tyler, Orlando Bloom, Sean Astin, Simon Pegg, Steve Burns, Nick Frost, Ming-Na Wen, Morena Baccarin, John Rhys-Davies, and several Goonies!

Make It Mt. Pleasant Spring Art Market

I will sign and sell “The Impact Series” on Sunday, April 27, in Lamont Plaza, Mt. Pleasant, Washington, D.C. Come by and say hi!

BOOK REVIEW

I truly enjoyed the YA story, Brighde Reborn, book one of The Amulet Series, by Leslie Sommers and Janice Sommers. It was a nice respite from politics. The main character experiences much high school drama and teen angst while learning about her powers and destiny, which reminded me of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I like characters that show their emotions, and Bridget often cries, just like Kate does in “The Impact Series”. The Sommers are excellent writers, I felt like I was at the Jersey Shore! I’m eager to read the next book in the series and learn more about Bridget, Cay, Trip, Deidre, and the rest as they pursue the amulet.

I have read several other books this month to keep my New Year's Resolution to read more. The others have been research-focused for my upcoming nonfiction book about the wildlife biodiversity extinction crisis. I’m still working on the unassisted pull-up.

PS - Butch and Suni are still stuck in space.

Until next time, stay safe my friends.

I can’t express my deep gratitude to my readers enough. Thank you for sharing this fantastic adventure with me!

Resistance!

Please participate in the economic blackout on Friday, February 28. If you must shop, shop small and local on these dates. Thank you!

Congress deserves some judgment for not challenging the executive branch’s power grab and abuse. Great Frederick Douglass quote.

Family fun during these dark days.

Fun book!

Research for my nonfiction book is informative and interesting but not fun.

Skye is having a hard time quitting Amazon.
