Such Turbulent & Exciting Times!

Hello CK Westbrook readers,

We had a fun, but sweltering 4th of July. It almost seems like a lifetime ago because there has been so much drama since then.

Washington D.C., and many other places, have experienced record-breaking temperatures, and thanks to Beryl, we had the earliest-forming Category 5 hurricane on record.

As of this writing, Butch and Suni are still stuck at the ISS, and NASA may need Musk’s help in getting them down due to Boeing’s mistakes. The sun seems as turbulent as American politics, with another coronal mass ejection released on July 21, so we may see more aurora borealis, or northern lights, in America.

I’m not even going to mention the political upheaval or the latest horrifying shooting event. Often life is stranger than fiction.

Book Review

This book could not be timelier!

As we sit in our sweat and worry about storms, floods, and fires, one may think, how in the hell did we get here? Glacial, by Chelsea Henderson is the perfect book to answer that question!

This is the review I wrote on Goodreads. Glacial: The Inside Story of Climate Politics by Chelsea Henderson | Goodreads

Rarely is a non-fiction book about climate legislation referred to as a gripping page-turner, but I found Glacial, by Chelsea Henderson, to be so. Glacial is compelling, well-researched, riveting, insider storytelling - the perfect climate change book for these times. When one learns of yet another raging thousand-acre fire or deadly drought, or another community flooded again and wonders how did our government not protect Americans from this horrible crisis, well, this book tells the heartbreaking story. I wish every American, no matter their politics, would read this book. It's a good reminder, with factual detail, that for many, power and money are more important than a healthy, sustainable environment for people and wildlife, and we must reject this every time we vote.
