Spooky Season
Hello CK Westbrook readers,
The Aftermath has been welcomed into the “The Impact Series” world with enthusiasm and fantastic reviews. I’ve had a great time on podcasts and at book events discussing this story. If you have read it and written a review – THANK YOU!
Regarding other issues, this has been and will continue to be a stressful fall. Hurricane Helene hit Florida as a Category 4, causing death and destruction in many states, and thirteen days later Hurricane Milton hit Florida as a Category 3, triggering never-before-seen tornados. More climate change-driven extreme weather storms are brewing off our coasts and hurricane season does not end until November 30 and that’s very spooky.
Butch and Suni are still stuck in space, and no, sane, responsible regulations have been created to reduce space debris. I guess the space industry will keep trashing lower Earth orbit until someone dies, probably even after. As we live in climate and biodiversity extinction crises, wouldn’t it be great if everyone would sign a pledge and commit to living sustainably on Earth and in space?
Of course, the scariest event is quickly approaching and I’m not talking about Halloween. The Presidential election is November 5. As a woman, environmentalist, and progressive, I’m terrified of what will happen. Please vote for kindness, honesty, and love. All humans and political parties are far from perfect, but hate, lies, and conspiracies are bad for humans and other living things.
Northern Lights
The Aftermath is so timely! It includes a cult-like figure, conspiracies, and powerful forces making selfish decisions that impact millions of people's lives. Sound familiar? It also features coronal mass ejections (CMEs) and solar flares that cause aurora borealis, or northern lights.
In the real world, we are in the midst of an intense solar cycle creating stunningly beautiful northern lights visible in Washington D.C. and many other places they usually are not, like near Lake Okeechobee in Florida! CMEs can also cause serious communication problems and widespread blackouts. So far, they have only caused gorgeous night skies. Check out some pictures (scroll to the bottom) I took on a golf course in the middle of Washington, D.C. because the colors can be seen best away from artificial light.
Signing Events
I had fun at the Literary Hill Bookfest, Celebrating Books & Authors on Capitol Hill, at Eastern Market on October 6. I loved meeting fellow authors and readers. I look forward to next year!
The holiday market season starts soon. I know I will be at the Mount Pleasant Holiday Market on Sunday, December 8. Come and purchase work from amazing local artists for holiday gifts!
Book Review & Podcast
I was interviewed about The Aftermath by Dr. Karyne Messina, a psychologist and psychoanalyst on the medical staff of Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland, the author of several books, and Podcast Host of New Books Network's “New Books in Psychology” and “The Psychology of Climate Change.”
I enjoy being on Dr. Messina’s podcast because we do deep dives into the psychological themes in my books. As an author, I love it when readers “get it” while reading my stories. They understand why I create certain characters and have them encounter particular challenges. You can listen to the interview here: https://newbooksnetwork.com/the-aftermath
Until next time, stay safe my friends.
I can’t express my deep gratitude to my readers enough. Thank you for sharing this fantastic adventure with me!
